I think your digital skills are very good, actually - you have rendered the look of the silky coat, and the mane texture, quite believeably! I like the way you've shown the shine on the face, too.

The head itself, the anatomy is not quite right, I'm sorry if I'm repeating what others have said . The eye is a touch too small, and the lips just out just a bit too far, giving him a dragonish kind of look. You could either move the nostril further down, or bring the lips in closer, to compensate for this. I think bringing the lips in closer would be the best bet, because the nostril looks like it's in just about the right place. You might need to make the muzzle a touch smaller too (not the nostril, just the mouth and chin area)

also I think the jawbones would need to come down a bit, his head is a bit narrow at the moment. Having said that, if I cover the poll and the muzzle end, it looks fine... so maybe shaving a bit off the poll, and shrinking the muzzle end would work? It's one of those things you can't work out til you try it
